Not looking good for Ol' Ball Coach
Ol' Ball coach is about to go down two years in a row to Vandy. Vandy runs a spread option and pops in and out of traditional formations and just went up by two TDs with 9:28 left over the Gamecocks. Don't let the name fool you. Vanderbilt has been building for a long time and they're finally figuring it out: Smart guys want a good education and good football, too. ND has been doing it for a long time. Other big programs have been doing it lately too. By bringing in smart kids to top programs you enhance your draft status with NFL teams and it feeds itself. The NFL has a strong interest in guys with intelligence and kids who want to go pro have a strong interest in programs that get their kids drafted. ND and USC have been onto this for a while. The Big10 gets a lot of kids drafted as well due to high academic standards. UFlorida and UMiami have good standards as well. There's a trend developing that's running deeper today than ever and a program like Vandy has all the pieces to step out in front of something like this and do something quite unexpected.
